Former Navy Spokesperson Commodore D.K.P. Dasanayake, who was arrested by the CID in connection with the abduction and disappearance of 11 youth, has been further remanded till August 02 by the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court.
When the case was taken up today (19), the attorneys representing the defendants requested the court to prevent the case from being covered by the media as they are distorting the facts pertaining to the trial.
However, the request was rejected by Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne due to defence attorneys failing to prove with facts such incidents of it being distorted in the media.
Dasanayake was arrested on July 12 after an investigation into the abduction which had occurred in Colombo during the war.
The 11 youth including Tamils had been abducted, illegally detained and then disappeared during the period of 2008 -2009. Dasanayake, who served as the navy spokesman during the war, has been accused of aiding and abetting the incident.
