Minister Ravi Karunanayake has informed the Presidential Commission of Inquiry probing the Central Bank bond scam, through his attorneys, that he will be unable to appear before the commission until next Wednesday due to a busy schedule.

The Presidential Commission of Inquiry to investigate and Inquire into the Issuance of Treasury Bonds had re-issued summons on the former Finance Minister to appear before the commission today (26).

However, Mr Karunanayake has informed the commission through his attorneys that he is unable to make it today due to the Security Council meeting being held, chaired by the President.

He has stated that he will also be unable to appear before the commission tomorrow and the day after as he will be attending Parliament sessions. The minister says that he will be leaving for Maldives on Monday and therefore will only be able to appear before the commission on Wednesday (August 2).

Meanwhile the Attorney General’s Department today requested the commission to instruct former Central Bank governor Arjuna Mahendran to hand over his mobile phones, laptops and other communication devices used during his term in office.

The commissions had stated that they will take the application, which was made by the Deputy Solicitor General, into consideration and issue a directive on alter date.
