Chairman of the Government Dental Surgeons Association (GDSA) Dr. Ananda Ratnayake, stated that they will seek trade union action if doctors from rural areas are transferred to help staff the Neville Fernando teaching hospital.
Addressing a media briefing organized by the GDSA, Dr. Ratnayake added that a dental surgeon had already been transferred to the Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital, in an unfair manner in order to fill in the vacancies, by the Ministry of Health on the 31 of July.
He said that the dental surgeon who had been transferred was transferred against normal placement transfer protocol, from Bulathkohupitiya to the NF teaching hospital.
Dr. Ratnayake reiterated the fact that if the Health Ministry is going to proceed in this manner, the dental surgeons in the Kegalle district will engage in a strike action within the week.
The Government Medical Officers’ Association has pledged their support for this strike action.
