Two arrested for attempting to sell artifacts in Embilipitiya

Two individuals have been arrested for attempting to sell objects of alleged archaeological value in Embilipitiya.

The arrest was made by the officials in Panadura after receiving an anonymous tip regarding the activities. 

A 14 inch stupa which had 04 stone cut gems embedded in it, along with a gold Buddha statue- both which belong to the National Archaeology Department. 

The individuals have been reported as residents of the Thunkama area, and will be presented to the Embilipitiya Magistrate’s Court in the future.
