Police Media Spokesperson, Superintendent of Police (SP) Ruwan Gunasekara stated that civil security measures had been tightened in the Jaffna District.
According to the Spokesperson’s report, the aforementioned action had been taken under orders of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Pujith Jayasundara.
The IGP had thus made the decision to issue the instructions owing to the recent incidents that took place in Jaffna, which had led to the drawing of increased attention towards civil security.
SP Gunasekara further stated that the Police Special Task Force (STF) was poised to offer assistance to the Police if the need arose.
Police are also reportedly in the process of receiving information from intelligence divisions on the prevalent situation in the region.
