Minister of Petroleum Resources Development and former captain of the Sri Lanka cricket team, Arjuna Ranatunga stated that he no longer watched Sri Lankan cricket as “bad people” were now running it.
During an exclusive chat with News18, he stated that he would soon be writing to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in order to seek government intervention to improve the standards of Sri Lankan cricket.
Speaking to News 18, Minister Ranatunga had stated that the ICC should go after the “bad people” running the show instead of going after small players.
He added: “Sri Lankan Cricket is in a bad shape because of people with bad reputation running it. It can’t go on like this forever.”
Speaking about the cricketers, he said: “I have nothing against them. They are my boys. They are good. They need a good guidance and clean administration. I am concerned about the future of cricket and cricketers”.
He proceeded to add that if the President and Prime Minister wanted him to head an interim board, he would readily comply and offer his services to “clean it up”.
During his time in the field, Arjuna Ranatunga played 93 Test matches scoring 5,105 runs, and 269 ODIs accumulating 7,456 runs.
