The Colombo High Court has granted bail to the Convener of the Inter-University Students’ Federation (IUSF), Lahiru Weerasekara.
Weerasekara was arrested by the Police on June 23 while leaving a press conferenceat the Centre for Society and Religion (CSR) along Deans Road in Maradana.
He was arrested in connection with the incident at the Health Ministry on June 21, where a large number of university students, during an anti-SAITM protest, forcibly entered the Ministry premises and caused damage to public property.
He was then placed in remand custody till July 05 after being produced at court.
On August 02, he, along with five other university students also accused of forcibly entering the Health Ministry, were then further remanded till August 04 by the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court, pending a further hearing.
