Additional Solicitor General Yasantha Kodagoda stated that certain parties were making baseless claims about the Attorney General’s Department which was tasked with aiding the Bond Commission in its investigations.

He said this upon making a statement before the Presidential Commission of Inquiry investigating the issuance of treasury bonds, on Friday (11).

An 8600-page long PDF document compiled using data from Arjun Aloysius’s mobile phone was submitted to the Attorney General’s Department.

Following the assessment of the data report, the Bond Commission then proceeded to summon and question the relevant witnesses.

The Additional Solicitor General accordingly stated that certain uninformed individuals were making various statements about the fact that he spent 48-hours analysing the aforementioned data report.

The Counsel appearing on behalf of Arjun Mahendran then stated before the Commission that it was not appropriate to comment on the matter as the statements were made outside the confines of the Commission.

In response, Kodagoda stated that the issue should be addressed as the statements were made about the officers of the Attorney General’s Department which was involved in the aiding of the Bond Commission.

He further explained that the report was an unedited PDF document that enabled easy access of the data found on Aloysius’s mobile phone.

Furthermore, he said that such baseless statements only proved the lack of knowledge of their sources.
