Several Districts under threat of floods

Due to prolonged rainfall, the populace living downstream of the Kukule Ganga dam (Kalutara and Bulathsinhala) are urged to be on high alert as the Kukule Ganga dam sluice gates are opened.
The residents of the Kalutara and Bulathsinhala areas are requested to prepare for sudden floods. Additionally landslides may be expected in the Ratnapura and Nuwara-eliya Districts.
The Assistant Director of the Disaster Management Center Pradeep Kodippili has stated that one sluice gate of the Kukule Ganga dam has been opened putting the areas of Ingiriya and Bulathsinhala in potential danger.
He also stated that any inquires regarding the development of the situation can be obtained by dialing 177 to reach a Disaster Management official. It has been reported that severe rainfall is to be expected to many upcountry areas during the course of the day.
