The tuition master, who was wanted in connection with the alleged distribution of leaflets containing questions from the Advanced Level chemistry paper, has been remanded till August 30.

The suspect in question had surrendered to the Gampaha Magistrate’s Court today (28).

On August 20, it was reported that the leaflets distributed by a certain private tutor had allegedly contained questions from the 2017 GCE Advanced Level Chemistry part II paper leading to suspicion over the paper being leaked early.

After the conclusion of the Chemistry part II paper, the private tutor began distributing written literature stating he was able to discuss several questions seen in the Chemistry part II paper through tutorials that he conducted.

It has been reported that the tutor was distributing flyers in front of an examination center in Gampaha.

An investigation was launched into this by police, based on a request made by the Commissioner General of Examinations W.M.N.J. Pushpakumara.

Based on the information uncovered through the probe, the father and brother of the tuition master were arrested and remanded on August 21 while the tuition master in question had been absconding.

Further investigations revealed the involvement of a 41-year-old, who was the owner of a typing center in Gampaha.

On August 23, a student who sat for the exam and his father, a doctor attached to the Police Hospital, were arrested for allegedly leaking the G. C. E. Advanced Level Chemistry paper.

The father of the student, a doctor attached to the Police Hospital, has also been placed in remand custody, according to Police.

The arrested suspects were remanded until August 30 by the Gampaha Magistrate’s Court.
