
An Indian male has been intercepted by Airport Customs at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) for attempted to smuggle tablets used for abortion.
The 32-year-old suspect had arrived from Delhi aboard flight UL 196 at 10.20 pm last night (29), and attempted to take out 16,930 tablets of through green channels, by hiding them inside his hand luggage.
The value of the pills has been estimated to be Rs. 2,313,503.
The suspect had been imposed a penalty of Rs. 100,000 by Chinthaka Kularathne, Deputy Director of Customs. The smuggled tablets were also taken under the custody of Airport Customs.
