Lakshapana sluice gate opened; people downstream cautioned

UPDATE (1.39pm) - The DMC said that one spill gate of the Kukuleganga reservoir has also been opened and urged the people living downstream at Palindanuwara, Agalawatta, Baduraliya and Ingiriya to be vigilant.

The Disaster Management Center (DMC) today urged the people living downstream of the Lakshapana Reservoir to remain vigilant as one sluice gate of the reservoir has been opened.

Meanwhile the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) says that landslides, rock falls and cur failures are possible if heavy rainfall continues in the next 12 hours in Kalutara, Galle, Ratnapura and Kegalle districts. 

The Meteorology Department said that showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Southern, Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces. Showers or thundershowers will occur elsewhere after 2.00 p.m.

Fairly heavy falls (about 75-100 mm) are expected at some places, Particularly Western, Southern, CentralandNorth-centralprovinc
