Additional Solicitor General Dappula de Livera stated that the Attorney General’s Department cannot conform with the verdict delivered by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry yesterday (13), and that they will seek counsel from the Attorney General on how to proceed.

During the hearing of the alleged Bond Scam yesterday (13) the Commission of Inquiry (COI) made it very clear to the legal representatives of Arjun Aloysius that he is to submit evidence to the commission, stating that his verification is ‘relevant and material’ to the COI and that Mr.Aloysius should be given the opportunity to explain himself before the commission. 

In response PC Gamini Marapana who was representing Perpetual Treasuries Limted (PTL), turned down the opportunity presented by the COI stating that his client was not willing to provide evidence. 

Accordingly the Chairman of the COI K.T.Chitrasiri stated that the commission will decide against compelling Arjun Alousius from submitting evidence based on the principal that if an accused was not willing to give evidence, he or she shouldn’t be compelled to do so.

Following the verdict representatives from the AG’s department stated that they do not agree with the decision made by the COI and that they will consult the Attorney General on how to proceed as they believe that evidence provided by Arjun Aloysius will be vital to the hearing.
