
A committee has been appointed by the Prisons Department and Prisons Ministry to look into the demands of Bogambara inmates who engage in a hunger strike.
.The committee comprising of Supreme Court judges has been appointed to investigate into the matter and to prepare a complete report, the Prisons Department said.
Thirty inmates, including those handed death sentences and life imprisonment commenced the hunger strike last morning (15).
The inmates who are serving death sentence urge the authorities to grant them a life imprisonment, while the inmates who are serving life imprisonments demand to shorten their penalty for a period of 20 years, Department of Prisons reported.
The report of the committee will be handed over to the Minister of Justice soon, said the Prisons Department spokesman ,Prisons Commissioner Thushara Upulniya.
