Politicians defaming clergy should be punished – Kumara Welgama

September 17, 2017   10:23 am

MP Kumara Welgama stated that the leader of the nation should take stern action against any individual making defamatory statements against a particular religious community within Sri Lanka.

Speaking to a gathering in Welimada, MP Welgama stated that to date, no action has been taken against certain parliamentarians who made derogatory statements against the Buddhist clergy on several occasions.

MP Welgama was of the view that President Maithripala Sirisena should not allow such acts to occur within the country and that he should take steps to punish certain offenders to deter such atrocities from reoccurring.
