A tense situation ensued at the 36th regular session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, when LTTE sympathizers and members of the Global Sri Lankan Forum debated on the legality of the war crimes allegations levied at Sri Lanka by the Geneva Human Rights Watch.

The main address on the issue was delivered by retired rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekara at an event that was attended by several Sri Lankans representing varying countries.

A British national expressed objection over the issue citing the war crimes allegations levied at former Army Chief Jagath Jayasuriya by Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka. It was also stated that the wife of Thamil Selvam, a senior member of the LTTE submitted a statement to the Sri Lankan military under severe political pressure.

In response Dr. Nalaka Godahewa questioned if the British national who raised these concerns spoke for the members of the Tamil Diaspora after accepting bribes to appear for their cause.

Dr.Godahewa further stated that both the wife of Thamil Selvam and Sarath Fonseka were driven by monetary motives. He stated that both the individuals made misleading remarks after accepting bribes to cause disarray.

He further stated that the media institutions of Sri Lanka thoroughly documented the developments of the war and that the military never kept the arrest of any high profile suspects a secret.

As discussions progressed, members of the Sri Lankan Global Forum shed light to the fact that a member of the Tamil Diaspora named Suhandaran cited misleading facts brought forward by a rigged interview at Channel 4 and spread the lies of LTTE sympathizers.

It was also reported that the man named Suhandaran, who questions the Sri Lankan government over choices made during the war, was not in sight when the LTTE shot 600 Policemen dead in Sri Lanka.
