The National Movement for Consumer Rights Protection requests the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) to implement Act No. 62 (Gazette No. 1987/50) with immediate effect.
The reason for this request is the availability of cheap coconut oil in the market as coconut oil had faced a price hike.
In a letter addressed to CAA, the Movement had mentioned that a recent investigation revealed that sellers are engaged in selling palm oil mixed coconut oil due to the price hike.
Accordingly, the Movement requests to take immediate action to implement Gazette Notification No. 1987/50 dated 2016-107 under Section 10 (1) (b) of the Consumer Affairs Authority Act.
The relevant gazette has to be implemented from March 1, 2017, but it has not yet been implemented, the letter stated.
