Shivajilingam pleads with govt to free Tamil prisoners

Provincial Council member M.K.Shivajilingam requested the President and the government to release 160 Tamil prisoners that are currently detained at government penitentiary institutes. 

 

The Provincial Councilor pointed out that three of the inmates are engaged in a hunger strike in protest of their imprisonment. 

 

M.K.Shivajilingam made this plea from the President following his visit of the Anuradhapura prison.

 

He further stated that there have been several instances where many convicts were granted pardon and that the Tamil prisoners deserve mercy from the government.
