Litro Gas distances itself from allegations against Chairman

Sri Lanka’s state-owned LP Gas supplier, Litro Gas, says that the company had no connection or knowledge of the alleged transaction that the Chairman of Litro Gas has been accused of.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) yesterday arrested Litro Gas chairman N.M.S. Moonesinghe in connection with the transfer of 1.1 million USD from the far Eastern Bank of Taiwan to a Sri Lankan bank account.

Sri Lankan police have also reportedly arrested two men for allegedly helping international criminals who hacked into computers at a Taiwan bank and stole millions of dollars.

“Litro Gas Lanka Ltd., wishes to assure all our stakeholders and the general public that the company had no connection to or knowledge of the alleged transaction that the Chairman of Litro Gas Lanka Ltd., Mr. Shalila Moonesinghe has been implicated in according to recent media reports.”

“In our capacity as a state-owned entity, Litro Gas Lanka complies with the stringent regulatory framework expected of a business operation while adhering to a highly structured check-&-balance system of a corporate entity managed by a professional board-of-management,” the Gas cylinder distributor said issuing a statement today (10).

Litro Gas Lanka assured its stakeholders that national interest and obligations to the larger Sri Lankan society directs all organizational activities. “Commitment to transparency and ethical corporate behaviour is of a paramount importance to the organization.”
