Sri Lankan female nabbed with USD 100,000

A Sri Lankan female in possession of USD 100 000 was apprehended by BIA Departure Customs today (13).

She was arrested by the Customs upon arrival at the airport in UL126 from Chennai,India at 4.30 am.

Foreign currencies worth US$100,000 were found in suspect’s handbag when she was arrested.

The foreign currencies amounted to Rs.1.5 million.

The 36-year old business woman had been identified as a resident of Mattakkuliya.

The case was detected by Assistant Superintendents of Customs.

The currencies were forfeited and the fine has not yet been decided.
