The flood warnings will remain further, although there has been a decline in the flood condition, announces the Disaster Management Centre (DMC).

Kolonnawa, Kelaniya, Biyagama, Kaduwela, Dompe, Hanwella, Padukka and Awissawella are areas under threat as a result of rising levels of waters in the Kelani River.

The DMC has also issued flood warnings to Ratnapura, Pelmadulla and Padukka as a result of the rising levels of the Kalu Ganga waters.

Meanwhile the DMC also issued landslide warnings to Neluwa Divisional Secretariat and surrounding areas in Galle.

Two spill gates at the Kukuleganga reservoir were opened yesterday(14) due to rising water levels after the catchment areas experienced a rainfall of more than 100 mm.

People living in Palindanuwara, Agalawatte, Baduraliya, Ingiriya and downstream were advised by the DMC to be on alert for the possibility of rising water levels.

The Metrological Department announced that the prevailing heavy showery condition is expected to reduce by some extent temporary in South-Western part of the island. Cloudy conditions are expected to continue further and fairly strong winds can be expected over the island and surrounding sea areas during next few days.

Showers or thundershowers at times are expected in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Western and Northern provinces and in Galle and Matara districts, according to the Metrological Department.

Fairly heavy falls (about 75-100 mm) can be expected at some places (Particularly in Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Kaluthara, Galle and Matara districts).

There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity, said the Metrological Department.
