Airline crew member arrested for smuggling jewelry worth Rs 26m

A SriLankan Airlines crew member who attempted to smuggle gold jewelry into the country was arrested by the Customs Officers of the Bandaranaike International Airport earlier today (19).

It has been reported that the suspect had concealed 5.3kg of gold valued at Rs. 26 million within a specially designed girdle and belt worn on his leg.

The 50-year old crew member arrived in Sri Lanka from Jeddha at 4.00am this morning and was detained following a routine security check.
