The Convener of the Medical Faculty Students’ Action Committee, Ryan Jayalath, has been granted bail by the Colombo High Court.
High Court Judge A.A.R. Heiyanthuduwa ordered him released on personal bail of Rs 500,000 and ordered that his parents sign for the bail, when a revision petition submitted on behalf of the student activist was taken up today (23).
The judge warned that the bail will be revoked if the court receives any evidence that he was found at a location where the law was broken in the future.
The court also instructed the Director of the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) to continue to monitor the activities of Ryan Jayalath.
He was charged with forcefully entering the Health Ministry and destroying public property during an anti-SAITM protest march on June 22.
Jayalath surrendered to the court by means of an attorney on August 18 and was subsequently remanded.
