Minister of Petroleum Resource Development Arjuna Ranatunga advised all consumers to frugally utilize petrol and other fossil fuels without unnecessarily causing unrest amongst the general public with false rumors of a petrol shortage.
In a special statement on the situation of unrest that ensued yesterday (3), the Minister stated that there is a sufficient amount of petroleum stored within all filling stations across the country.
“A temporary delay in the distribution of fuel to IOC filling stations was experienced as the latest consignment of fuel from IOC was transported via a sub standard naval vessel. IOC stations experienced a temporary delay as there were practical issues in docking said vessel” the Minister stated.
Minister Ranatunga further clarified that there is no cause for alarm as 80 percent of filling stations will be fully restocked by the end of the day.
