Piliyandala bomb blast : LTTE suspect sentenced to life imprisonment

The Colombo High court today (08) sentenced a LTTE cadre to life imprisonment on charges of planting and detonating a Claymore bomb at Piliyandala Bus terminal on 2007 killing 30 civilians.

Handing down a sentence against accused Sachithranandan Ananda Sudahar alias Wasanthan, High Court Judge Piyasena Ranasinghe observed that the prosecution has proven the guilt of the accused beyond a reasonable doubt.

The High Court Judge decided that the accused was found guilty of all 94 indictments in the case filed against him by the Attorney General.

The suicide bus bomb which exploded inside a CTB bus on 2007 April at Piliyandala bus terminal killed 30 people while injuring 42.

IThe second accused of the case; Dewendran Sinnayya had passed away during the course of the trial.

The accused had been charged under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
