Budget 2018: Rs.40000 per acre insurance scheme for 6 crop types

An insurance scheme of Rs.40,000 per acre for six crop types including paddy will be introduced under the new budget Minister of Finance and Media Mangala Samaraweera said. 

He stated that this decision was taken to revitalize the agricultural sector of Sri Lanka and further enhance the livelihoods of local farmers.  

Minister Samaraweera also stated that the National Building Tax (NBT) will be removed off selected agricultural equipment to enable low-income earners to be better equipped. 

It was also stated that a developmental program will be introduced to promote entrepreneurship within Sri Lanka.
