Sri Lanka’s human rights record is scheduled to be examined by UN Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group from November 15- 17.
It is the third UPR review faced by Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka’s first and second UPR reviews took place in May 2008 and November 2012, respectively.
Sri Lanka is one of the 14 States to be reviewed by the UPR Working Group during its upcoming session taking place from 6 to 17 November.
The Sri Lankan delegation participating in UN Human Rights Council will be headed by Deputy Minister Harsha De Silva.
Deputy Minister Harsha De Silva will deliver a one-hour lecture on Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights Council’s UPR.
The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) is a unique process which involves a review of the human rights records of all UN Member States. The UPR is a State-driven process, under the auspices of the Human Rights Council, which provides the opportunity for each State to declare what actions they have taken to improve the human rights situations in their countries and to fulfill their human rights obligations.
