State Minister of Irrigation Palitha Range Bandara stated that a large scale deed scam had been conducted by a group of individuals who had circulated false deeds for government lands in an attempt to sell them to private investors.
The State Minister shed light on the above matter following an emergency meeting that was called on Friday (10), at the parliamentary complex. The meeting was attended by Minister of Lands and Parliamentary Affairs Gayantha Karunathilake and the Commissioner General of Lands.
It was revealed that the deed scam was centered around the Puttalam area where false deeds on government lands were circulated as deeds of publication. Investigations into the incident revealed that several lands were taken over by certain individuals without a proper sale or deed.
Reports confirm that certain private organizations are involved in the large scale scam.
State Minister Bandara stated that the government will apprehend the guilty parties and adequately compensate the general public affected by the fraud.
