26 persons attempting to seek refuge in Canada detained in Puttalam

The Puttalam Investigation, Research and Monitoring apprehended 26 persons residing in the area with the ambition of illegally emigrating to Canada to claim refugee status. 

 

Police officials stated that the 26 individuals were arrested earlier today (26). 

 

The arrested persons are residents of Jaffna, Trincomalee and Battocaloa. Police officials stated that the arrests were made at a public hall that the individuals were seeking refuge. 

 

Local authorities state that further investigation will be carried out into the incident.
