The investigation report prepared on the sudden expulsion of a female student, who was attending a government school in Kekirawa Education Zone, allegedly on the grounds that she was pregnant, has been sent to the Attorney General’s Department seeking the AG’s advice. 

The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) had also sought advice from the AG as to acertain whether a criminal act has been committed against the student under Section 308A of the Sri Lankan Penal Code Act No. (Amended) 22 of 1995.

Issuing a statement, NCPA Chairman, Marani de Livera said that further proceedings into the issue will decided on per the instructions of AG.

Meanwhile the judicial medical officer has confirmed that the student in question is not pregnant and has not been subject to any form of sexual abuse.

Statements have been recorded from all relevant parties including the female student and her family members, during the investigations carried out by the Special Police Investigation Unit of NCPA.

The 10th grade student had received an unjustly harsh punishment from her school Principal and disciplinary committee, for vomiting during school hours.

The female student was expelled from school on October 19 following a disciplinary inquiry conducted by the school principal and disciplinary committee.

It was reported that the female student was summoned before the principal after a group of students lodged a complaint with school administrators stating that the girl was pregnant.
