Keselgamu Oya overflows

November 30, 2017   10:04 am

Ada Derana correspondents report that the Keselgamu Oya has overflowed to the surrounding area of Mahaeliya as a result of rising water levels at the Castlereigh dam caused by heavy rains that plagued the western region of the central hills.

Several houses within the Bogawantala estate, the Norwood grounds and several houses near the Norwood police station have been flooded as a result of the overflow.

Reports confirm that residents affected by the flash flood have been evacuated to safe ground by local authorities.

Engineers in charge of the Kotmale dam have advised residents downstream of the Kotmale Oya area to be vigilant of any impending floods as three spill gates of the Kotmale dam have been opened as a result of rising water levels.
