One killed in Maligawatta shooting

A 25-year-old youth was shot dead by an unidentified gunman at Maligawatta, a short while ago. 

 

Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said the shooting occurred at around 8.30pm today (27) on the Allama Iqbal byroad in Maligawatta.

 

The body has been kept at the scene of the crime under police protection until the preliminary Magistrate’s inquiry is carried out. 

 

The suspect or suspects responsible for the murder have not been identified while Maligawatta Police is conducting further investigations. 

 

The incident is the latest in a series of recent murders carried out by gunmen which have been linked to a spike in underworld activity.
