Strong gusty winds expected over the island

A slight change in the prevailing weather condition is expected in south-western part of the island and a slight enhancement of windy condition is expected over the island from today (17), says Meteorological Department.

Several spells of showers will occur in Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts. Few showers may occur in North-western province.

Fairly strong gusty winds up to 40 kmph can be expected over the island, particularly in Hambantota, Monaragala, Matale, Matara and Batticaloa districts.

SEA AREAS

Showers or thundershowers will occur in the southern sea areas of the island.

Winds will be south-westerly in direction in the sea area around the island. Wind speed will be 30-40 kmph.

The sea area extending from Hambantota to Batticaloa via Pottuvil can be rough at times as the wind speed can increase up to 50-60 kmph.

The wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea area extending from Mannar to Trincomalee via Kankasanturai.
