Galaha hospital to take another month to reopen

Central Province Health Authorities have stated that the re-opening of Galaha Hospital would take about one month.

Recently, a large number of people, provoked by the death of a one-and-a-half year old infant, had gathered at the hospital premises, allegedly due to the delay in treating him by the doctors and staff at the hospital.

The angry mob had attacked and caused damages to the property at the hospital and the vehicles belonging to doctors. Police Special Task Force (STF) personnel and Riot Police were later deployed to control the situation.

However, the hospital had been closed indefinitely since the incident.

The residents of the area engaged in a protest action yesterday (16), claiming that they have been severely inconvenienced due to the temporary closedown of the hospital.

Responding to questions raised by Ada Derana regarding the current situation Central Provincial Health Director Dr. Shanthi Samarasinghe stated that restoration of damaged properties has already been commenced.

Accordingly, the authorities expect to reopen the hospital within a month, added the Central Provincial director of Health Director.
