JO accuses govt. of abusing the Sri Lankan Rupee

There is no other era in the Sri Lankan history, in which Sri Lankan Rupee consecutively depreciated three times just within a week and three years, claims the Joint Opposition.

JO MP Dullas Alahapperuma stated this today (19), joining a press conference held in Colombo.

Even during the administration of former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga or the wartime, the Rupee did not depreciate in this manner, Alahapperuma said.

Sri Lankan Rupee losing its value is not depreciation anymore, this can be identified as abuse of the Rupee by the government, he added.

Commenting on the recent revelation of an alleged plot to assassinate the incumbent President and the former Defense Secretary, MP Dullas Alahapperuma stated that it has been eight days since the plan was disclosed to the country.

The mastermind behind this plan, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Terrorist Investigation Division (TID), plans to execute the assassination by using the underworld, however, the underworld and the police are coordinated by the Inspector General of Police, he claimed.

Three main parties are focused in this assassination plan; the incumbent President, former Defense Secretary, who are to be assassinated, and the Prime Minister, who is to be extolled through the plan, he said.

These three persons will be the centre of discussion in the upcoming Presidential Elections and assassinating two of them is advantageous to the other party, according to Alahapperuma.

The interest that the President has given to the issue causes suspicion, Dullas Alahapperuma added.
