The Colombo Fort Magistrate today permitted the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to direct DIG Nalaka de Silva to the Government Analyst’s Department to record voice samples.
The CID had sought the permission of the court to direct the former head of the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) to the Government Analyst’s Department to record voice samples in connection with the investigation on an alleged plot to assassinate President Maithripala Sirisena.
The conspiracy was exposed Anti Corruption Movement operations director Namal Kumara, who was also directed to be sent to the Government Analyst for recording of voice samples by the court yesterday.
Kumara had revealed that former in-charge of the Terrorist Investigation Division Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Nalaka de Silva had discussed with him the alleged plot to kill Sirisena and the former Defence Ministry secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
He had presented recordings of the alleged phone conversations to support his accusations.
DIG de Silva was questioned by the CID on Kumara’s revelations. He has been transferred out of the terrorism bureau pending investigations.
