Heavy showers expected in several provinces

Showers or thundershowers will be expected over the most parts of the island particularly in the evening or night, Department of Meteorology stated.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in Western, Southern and North-western coastal areas in the morning too.

Heavy falls of about 100 mm can be expected at some places in the Central, Uva, Sabaragamuwa, Northern and North-central provinces.

There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.
 
The department requests the general public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.

Sea areas:
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Potuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota, according to the Department of Meteorology.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the sea area extending from Trincomalee to Kankasanturai via Mullaitivu in the evening or night.

Winds will be south-westerly in the direction in the sea area around the island. Wind speed will be 20-30 kmph.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
