The Supreme Court has set a date to consider fundamental rights petitions filed by former President’s Chief of Staff Gamini Senarath and 2 other defendants.
The said fundamental rights petitions have been submitted in 2017 seeking a court order to prevent the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) from arresting them.
When the petitions was taken up before Judges Eva Wanasundara, Vijith Malalgoda and Nalin Perera today (02), it was determined that these petitions will be heard on the 21st of January.
Stating that the FCID was going to arrest them on financial fraud in 2017, petitioners say that there are no reasonable grounds for arresting him with regard to the allegation.
They request the Supreme Court to issue a verdict stating that it had violated their fundamental rights.
Gamini Senarath, face charges of misappropriation of Rs 500 million in funds belonging to Litro Gas Lanka by investing in ventures including the Grand Hyatt hotel project.
Senarath was the chief of staff of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
