Body of woman killed in flood discovered

The body of a woman, who went missing owing to the floods in Walallawita area in Orugoda, was discovered this morning (08).

The deceased has been identified as a 59-year-old mother of one named Wijesekara Mudiyanselage Deemika, who had been residing in Ledola, Walallawita.

Three female garment workers, including the deceased, had been returning to their respective places after work, when they were caught in the flood and drifted away.

Two of them were rescued by the residents of the area; however, the deceased had gone missing since the incident.

Navy officers and the residents of the area had launched a joined operation yesterday (07) in order to discover the missing woman, and the divers of the Navy had recovered the body this morning at around 9.00 a.m. following a great effort.
