Showers or thundershowers will occur at most places over the island particularly after 2.00 p.m., according to the Department of Meteorology.

Showers may occur in coastal areas of Western province and Galle and Matara districts during the morning too.

Fairly heavy falls above 75mm can be expected at some places in Central, Uva, Southern and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Batticaloa and Poḷonnaruwa districts.

There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.

Sea areas:

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Colombo to Pottuvil via Galle and Hambantota, the Department of Meteorology stated.

Winds will be South-westerly in direction and wind speed will be 25-35 kmph in the sea areas around the island.

The sea areas extending from Hambantota to Batticaloa via Pottuvil can be fairly rough at times as the wind speed can increase up to 40-50 kmph at times.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
