Former Prisons Commissioner Emil Ranjan Lamahewa, who was arrested over the killing of 27 inmates during the Welikada Prison clashes in 2012, has been further remanded until October 30 by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.
The case was taken up before the Colombo Additional Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage today (16).
The CID informed the court that investigations pertaining to the case are still ongoing and the reports of the government analyst have not yet been received.
Hence, the CID requested the court to further remand Prisons Commissioner Emil Ranjan Lamahewa.
Considering the submissions, the Colombo Additional Magistrate ordered to remand Prisons Commissioner Emil Ranjan Lamahewa until October 30 and called for a progress report on the investigations from the CID at the next hearing.
The other suspect of the case, IP Rangajeewa of the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB), was recently released on bail under the orders of the Court of Appeal.
