
Three Army personnel have been arrested over supplying 2,958 rounds of T-56 ammunition to criminals who were arrested in Siyambalanduwa recently, stated the police.
Among the arrested is a Major of the Sri Lanka Army, according to the Police Media Spokesperson.
On 21st October, four persons including two women were arrested in Siyambalanduwa area while transporting 2958 live ammunition from Siyambalanduwa to Galle in the guise of going on a trip.
‘Laddu Roshan’, a follower of underworld gang leader ‘Kosgoda Sujee’, was also among the arrestees. Investigations have revealed that the ammunition transport has been carried under the orders ‘Jayalath Sudda’ who is currently imprisoned in Galle Prison.
Accordingly, Siyambalanduwa police arrested three army personnel including a Major in the Padavi Parakramapura Army Camp in Siyambalanduwa, last night (24).
Among the arrested Army personnel are the 40 year old Major Shirantha Sanjeewa Dissanayake, 29 year old Lance Corporal Hawadiyalage Gedara Akila Sampath and a 20 year old soldier Dehikindawala Mudiyanselage Malinda Madusanka.
Siyambalanduwa police have discovered 4 boxes of ammo buried in the forest behind the quarters of the Major.
Further investigations are conducted by the Siyambalanduwa Police.
