One Million Trees from Manusath Derana

One Million Trees project initiated by Manusath Derana Nature Force for the celebration of the 13th anniversary of TV Derana has commenced this morning (28).

 

The live broadcast of the programme, which commenced at 11 am this morning, will be brought to the viewers for 7 consecutive hours until 6 pm.

 

The project was launched under theme “Magen Gasak Mavu Deranata” (A tree for Mother Earth from Me” with regard to the 13th anniversary of TV Derana, scheduled to be celebrated this month. 

 

Several phases of this national tree-planting campaign were launched island-wide during the last few months along with a wide range of individuals from various statuses.

 

In celebration of the previous anniversaries, TV Derana implemented a number of CSR projects including Little Hearts programme, Derana Daruwo scholarship programme and Manusath Derana initiative to create awareness of and raise funds for those who are affected by kidney diseases.

 

The concept of the national tree-planting campaign, which was initiated by TV Derana in 2015, has also been carried out 600 schools so far.

 

Meanwhile, another national tree planting campaign named ‘Thuruliya Wenuwen Api’ jointly led by the Sri Lanka Army, the Expressway Operation Maintenance and Management Division along with Manusath Derana was executed on August 23.

 

TV Derana intends to plant 475,000 across the country while monitoring and caring for plants until the plants are fully grown.

 

Joining hands with the One Million Trees programme, President Maithripala Sirisena also planted a tree at the President’s House this morning.

 

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa also expressed his support for the project by planting a tree at the Temple Trees.

 

The Speaker of the Parliament Karu Jayasuriya also planted a tree at his official residence in support of the tree planting campaign.

 

The Leader of the Opposition R. Sampathan, the Maha Sangha and religious leaders also took part in the One Million Trees initiative.
