Stock of mortar ammunition found in Polonnaruwa

Welikanda Police has uncovered a stock of old mortar ammunition that had been hidden in the woods in Sinhapura area, Polonnaruwa.
The stock of mortar ammunition, which was packed inside a polythene sack, was uncovered by the police this morning (29), based on a tip-off received.
Necessary legal procedures have been completed in order to be handed over to the Arangala Special Task Force for the stock of ammunition to be diffused, said police.
The police suspect that these mortar ammunition to have been brought to the location during the wartime.
