Speaker to convene party leaders’ meeting today

Speaker of Parliament Karu Jayasuriya will convene a meeting of the party leaders at 11 am this morning (30).
The Speaker has decided to assemble the meeting taking into consideration the request made by several political parties to reconvene the parliament without delay.
According to UNP Parliamentarian Thushara Indunil, the meeting will focus on the current political confusion that has arisen in the country.
However, MP Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena claims that the Speaker does not possess any authority to convene a meeting of the party leaders when the parliament is prorogued.
He further pointed out that the Speaker has no authority to convene the parliament before November 16.
