UNP Parliamentarian Ajith P. Perera today claimed that there is an attempt to arrest former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

“We have received information that at this moment the OIC who was recently appointed to Kollupitiya Police and the newly appointed Defene Secretary Hemasiri Fernando are discussing about arriving at Temple Trees within today to use force against Ranil Wickremesinghe and to remove him from the premises or arrest him as well as to use force against the MPs and other groups who are there for his safety,” he alleged.

He warned that if anyone attempts to enter the premises of Temple Trees unlawfully and the people decide act in self-defense, the incumbent government will have to take responsibility.

The MP said that the reconvening of the Parliament on the 05th of November instead of the 16th, the date which had been fixed for the next session due to the proroguing of parliament, is “a victory”  and that if they unable to show a majority on that day the UNP will sit in the Opposition .

“If we don’t have the parliamentary majority on November 5 we will vacate and leave. We will leave this place (Temple Trees), the government and go to the opposition,” he told reporters at a press briefing in Temple Trees.

However, he added that they do have the parliamentary majority and that they will prove this.
