Developing low pressure area to bring rainfall

A low pressure area is likely to develop over central part of south Bay of Bengal on night of 05th November, stated Meteorological Department. It is very likely to move west-northwestwards across southwest Bay of Bengal, Sri Lanka and Gulf of Mannar area during 6-8 November 2018.

Due to this situation the showery condition is expected to enhance over the island particularly in the Eastern, Uva and North-central provinces from tonight.

General public, Naval and fishing communities are requested to be attentive about advisories issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard further.    

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Eastern, North-central, Southern and Uva provinces.

Showers or thundershowers will occur elsewhere after 2.00p.m.

Heavy falls of about 100-150mm can be expected at some places in the Uva, Southern and Central provinces and in Batticaloa, Ampara and Polonnaruwa districts.

Misty conditions may occur at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces during the morning.

There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.


SEA AREAS

Due to this situation the showery condition is expected to enhance in the sea areas extending from Trincomalee to Galle via Batticaloa and Hambanthota from today (05th) night.

General public, Naval and fishing communities are requested to be attentive about advisories issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard further.

Showers or thundershowers will occur in the sea areas around the island. Heavy showers or thundershowers can be expected at some places over the sea areas extending from Trincomalee to Galle via Batticaloa and Hambanthota.

Winds will be north-easterly or easterly and wind speed will be 15-30 kmph.

Wind speed can increase up to 40 kmph at times in the sea area extending from Puttalam to Kankasanturai via Mannar.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
