The Supreme Court has decided to hear a petition filed seeking a court order on the Elections Commission to immediately hold the Provincial Council election which has been delayed.
The petition which was filed by the ‘Sathya Gaveshakayo’ (Truth Seekers) organization was fixed for support on March 29 by the Supreme Court.
This was announced when the petition was taken up for consideration today (8) before a three-member judge bench comprising Justices Sisira de Abrew, Prasanna Jayawardena and Preethi Padman Surasena.
Although the Chairman of the Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya and the other members of the commission, who have been named as respondents in the case, were previously issued notice by the court, there were no attorney representation for them today (8), Ada Derana reporter said.
The case was postponed until March 29 and the court ordered to re issue notice on the respondents.
The petition was filed with the Supreme Court on February 18 requesting the court to issue an order directing the Election Commission to hold elections for Sri Lanka’s Provincial Councils immediately.
