
Four teams of police officers have been deployed to investigate the clashes that took place between two groups in Porutota-Kochchikade, Negombo last evening (05).
Police Media Spokesperson stated this addressing a press conference held in Colombo today (06).
Two suspects have already been arrested over the incident.
Investigations are being carried out to identify the other persons responsible for the unrest in Porutota-Kochchikade area, the police media spokesperson further said.
However, the situation has been curtailed completely by the security forces and the police as of now.
The unrest was caused owing to the unruly behaviour of a group of individuals who had been under the influence of alcohol, SP Gunasekara added.
Cordon and search missions are being carried out in the area.
Following the incident, police curfew was enforced in Negombo, Kochchikade, Katunayake, Divulapitiya, Kotadeniyawa, Pamunugama, Raddolugama, Seeduwa, Dungalpitiya and Katana police divisions. The curfew was lifted at 7.00 a.m. this morning.
Meanwhile, a temporary ban on social media including WhatsApp, Facebook and Viber, which was imposed in the aftermath of the unrest, was lifted this morning.
