As per an order issued by the Central Province Governor Maithri Gunaratne, all liquor outlets in Central Province will be temporarily shut down, stated an official from the Excise Department.

Accordingly, owners of liquor stores had closed off their shops by 2 pm this afternoon (14).

Reportedly, the governor, considering the unrest prevailing in certain areas of the country, has requested the Excise Commissioner to shut down the liquor outlets in the Central Province for a week from today.

The Excise Commission had informed the Governor that liquor stores can be closed today while the closure of liquor outlets in the upcoming days could be decided following discussion.
